Original Potter Palmer stone townhouse in the gold Coast of Chicago circa 1880s. Before real estate developer and prominent citizen Palmer moved his sights to the north of the city, most wealthy Chicagoans lived more towards the southern part of town. “Potter Palmer houses,” most built with this recognizable rusticated stone facade, now dot the tony northern lakeside neighborhood known as the Gold Coast.
